MCH founder Dr. Forrest E. Long was a noted educator, author, administrator, and innovator.
While he was a Professor of Education at New York University, he became the editor and publisher of
The Clearing House, an educational journal for secondary schools. Distribution of the
publication evolved into the first commercial school mailing list and became the forerunner of
today’s educational mailing list industry. The company soon extended its compilation efforts beyond
education into other institutional markets including healthcare, government and religion.
Today, the founder’s grandson,
Peter Long, leads MCH. Peter, and
President
John Hood, work hard to ensure that
MCH builds on the tradition of excellence and innovation established by Dr. Long in 1928. The
company has evolved from a mail shop into the leading compiler of business-to-institution (B2i)
data. Contributing to its 80 years of success are three generations of Midwest work ethic,
commitment to quality, and dedication to customer service.

The Social Committee is comprised of seven members, one representative from each MCH department.
The Committee plans several fun (and funny) events each year that give the staff an opportunity to
relax, laugh, and enjoy terrific food. You haven’t lived until you’ve participated in the annual
Chili Bowl or water balloon volleyball. Participation in Social Committee events is strictly
voluntary, yet employees frequently schedule their out-of-office time so they won’t have to miss an
event!
While the Social Committee is instrumental in orchestrating fun events, it also takes the lead
in sponsoring worthwhile community projects such as Support the Troops, food pantry donations, and
holiday donations. MCH employees are also conscious of global issues. The company has sponsored
reforestation efforts through the Missouri Department of Conservation for many years and launched a
recycling program in 2007.
Past company outings include:
- The Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre
- New Theater
- Worlds of Fun
- Cool Crest Miniature Golf
- Royals Game
- Hermann, MO Wineries
The MCH Social Committee also plans events throughout the year, including:
- Company Picnic
- Chili Bowl
- Holiday Luncheon
- Quarterly Birthday Celebrations
Plus parties for Valentine’s Day, Independence Day, Halloween, and more.

We asked our employees why MCH is a great place to work. Here’s what they had to say:
“MCH is a family owned business and treats employees as they are a part of that. Since the
first day I started at MCH, I’ve always felt welcome and a part of the MCH team. MCH strives to
better the employees. Employees are given a chance to move up in the company (promotions) and are
always encouraged to attend training (internal or external) to better themselves.”
“With 75 years of experience among the three of us and many years yet to work, we have
discovered the success of MCH is the quality, honesty, and work ethics of small-town employees. The
value of great employees that take pride in a quality job earns the respect and loyalty of MCH’s
management. The success of a good company depends on more than one person, so we work together as a
team.”
“I think MCH is a great place to work because of the people that work here. Everyone has been
so nice, helpful, and friendly. The managers are very helpful and are always ready to answer
questions.”
